Arts and Theatre
While we associate theatre and drama with theatres in our larger towns and cities I am pleased to report that a number of rural towns have theatres that can provide seating for 150 to 300 people. They present traditional Irish music concerts, jazz, classical music, country music, blues, professional drama, comedy and poetry readings and are open all year round. The Glens Centre, Manorhamilton is only a twelve mile drive from Drumkeeran and is located in a converted Methodist Church www.theglenscentre.com
In Sligo there is the Hawkswell Theatre, www.hawkswell.com the Model, Arts and Niland Gallery, The Mall, www.modelare.ie and The Blue Raincoat Theatre Company, located at Lower Quay St., www.blueraincoat.com and in Carrick-on-Shannon there is The Dock Arts Centre which is housed in a 19th century converted courthouse (hence the name) www.thedock.ie . Carrigallen have a vibrant amateur drama group who have won the All Ireland Drama in Athlone on many occasions and regularly perform at the Cornmill Theatre in Carrigallen (049) 4339612 and finally there is The Ardhowen Theatre, Dublin Road, Enniskillen www.ardhowentheatre.com
While you are in the area the local pubs often have traditional Irish Music nights, or sometimes country music. During the Summer season most towns in the area have festivals or music weekends and this information can be provided during your stay or will be on the website.
If you are interested in attending a performance in any of the theatres while in this area, please check their websites for any upcoming concerts or performances.
